Twenty-five years later, September 11 remains a day that many of us can replay with remarkable clarity.
For some, it is the memory of where they were when the first news came in. For others, it is the phone calls, the uncertainty, the images that felt impossible to comprehend, or the quiet realization that the country – and so many individual lives – had changed forever.
Today, we remember the 2,977 people whose lives were taken on September 11, 2001; the first responders who ran toward danger; the families who have carried unimaginable loss; the service members, survivors, volunteers, and communities forever affected in the years since. This year’s 25th-anniversary observance also recognizes those who have died from 9/11-related illness and injury.
